Edible film labels are introduced, redefining food safety standards

Technological Revolution: Edible Printing Ink and Substrate

XX Packaging, in collaboration with China Agricultural University, has successfully developed edible film inner packaging. The label substrate uses a composite film of sodium alginate and konjac glucomannan, and the printing ink is extracted from natural fruit and vegetable pigments, meeting food grade safety standards. This technology completely solves the risk of traditional label ink migration, especially suitable for infant and toddler food and drug liquid packaging.

Application scenarios: From baby food to medical preparations

In the test of Heinz Rice noodles, the edible label has no chemical substances separated after high-temperature cooking, which is far better than the traditional ink label. The medical version has been used for the self-supporting bag of the irregular suction nozzle for oral liquid preparations. Patients can directly chew the label to obtain medication information, greatly improving medication compliance. This technology won the 2024 World Packaging Organization (WPO) Innovation Gold Award.

Future Expansion: Intelligent Nutrition Labels

The next generation of products will integrate edible RFID tags, allowing consumers to release vitamins or probiotics after chewing, realizing the concept of "packaged as nutritional supplements". We are currently collaborating with Nestle to develop functional milk powder packaging, which is expected to be launched in 2025.
